The Music Box is an accessory that can be purchased from the Wizard.

When the Music Box is equipped, it has a random chance to record the currently playing track in-game. This includes tracks being played by other Music Boxes. When it has recorded a song, it will change its name (to include the track name that it has recorded) and the color of the musical note on the sprite.

A music box that has a track recorded to it can be played back in one of two ways:

  • Equipping it again (or keeping it equipped).
  • Placing it as furniture and activating it, either by right click or with wires.

There are currently 13 tracks that the Music Box can record.

Bug.png
Bug: If you try to place a Music Box that has already recorded a song on a Table in Single Player (but not Multiplayer), it will instead drop on the ground along with copies of itself. The amount of copies dropped is determined by how long you hold the mouse button down. Be warned, however, that generating too many Music Boxes will cause other dropped items on the ground to despawn.
Anomaly.png
Anomaly: If an equipped Music Box records the title music (played via another Music Box), it'll become an Overworld Day Music Box.
Bug.png
Bug: Right clicking on the music box while in your inventory will sometimes cause the game to crash.
Bug.png
Bug: Hitting a music box with the ice rod will cause the box to turn into a dropped item, then it and all other music boxes, when activated on the ground, will cause only the stem of the note to light up, and when holding down right click on the box, it will rapidly turn the box on and off while making your vanity items dissapear (though still equiped). the boxes will still work as normal.
